Can't send emails via smtp

Hi,

in our app that we develop we need to send emails via smtp to users to verify themselves. In this bugreport (https://github.com/gitpod-io/gitpod/issues/965) I read that Gipod does block port 587. Is there any possibility to unblock this port? We can’t test our new functionality without it :frowning:

Kind regards,
Thomas

We blocked that port at some point, but I’m not sure if this is really necessary anymore or whether we are overrestrictive. I will discuss with the team.

Hi @svenefftinge

thanks for looking into this

Do you have any workaround ? How can we test any smtp module without the availability of any smtp service ?

Hi,
unfortunately we cannot open the standard port for SMTP requests because of the security risk. You have to use another port for that purpose.

Best regards,
Wulf

Hi @wulfthimm,
is there a possibility to at least open this port for trusted parties? Otherwise we would be completely unable to test our user sign up functionality in gitpod which relies on sending emails

Hi @Sandared ,
if you use Gitpod self-hosted it is up to you to allow this port in your installation. I will take a look how to open the port.

Hi @wulfthimm,

unfortunately we are using the SaaS solution, thus my suggestion to allow to use this port for trusted 3rd parties (In this case that would be us ;)).

Hi @Sandared,
allowing this for specific users cannot be done, I am sorry.

Good day,

is https://mailtrap.io/ a option ?

Thx
